When you think of Singapore, what flashes through your mind? Is it the Merlion

? A plate of Nasi Lemak? Or... perhaps Gardens by the Bay? Gardens by the Bay is a major landmark of Singapore, a place that serves to bring thousands of tourists to our little red dot annually. So what is so special about Gardens by the Bay? Why are tourists travelling to Singapore from all around the world just to visit this place? Well, Gardens by the Bay has a huge variety of flora and fauna. Gardens by the Bay has over 1 million plants, and has 19,000 species!

As a nature lover who is always eager to learn more about wildlife, a visit to Gardens by the Bay would unequivocally quench my thirst for knowledge. The diversity in Gardens by the Bay is especially evident in the current display, the high-in-demand Tulipmania Flora Display, which alone has 40 varieties of tulips. This popular display was another chief reasons I wanted to visit Gardens by the Bay. As an avid reader whose childhood brimmed with fairy tales, I was fascinated to meet real-life fairy tale characters. Furthermore, Gardens by the Bay has very unique architecture that I have always wanted to see in person. It has been at the top of my bucket list to walk through the Skywalk that link the multiple umbrella-like structures. Thus, these were the plethora of reasons why I chose to visit Gardens by the Bay with my class during the June holidays.

Before our excursion, we ensured that we had done sufficient research to maximise our time spent at Gardens by the Bay. We searched which attractions would be on display and what would be showcased at each display. Then, we voted on the attractions that we would prioritize. After we had come to an agreement on the attractions we wanted to focus on first, we mapped out our journey according to the opening hours of the attractions and their proximity to each other to prevent an excessive waste of time travelling around.

First, we went to the Tulipmania Flora Display as it was located near the entrance. We spent some time admiring the spectacular tulips and identifying the rare blooms like ’Red Riding Hood’ and ’Purple Prince’. Afterwards, much to my delight, we met and took pictures with the fairy tale characters. They all looked so charming, as if they had just jumped out from a page in the fairytale. We managed to catch the 2:00 pm dance performances. Everyone was so mesmerized by the dance performances and by the turns and twists of the performers as they spun to the music. It was so captivating that we decided to make a slight alteration to our schedule so we could attend the next performance at 3:00 pm. We also managed to watch the 5:00 pm Characters on Stilts programme. The whole class was stunned with amazement at the performers’ ability to move around and even perform tricks on stilts that were taller than us. After bidding our farewells to the enchanting Flower Dome, we went for a stroll on the Skywalk. We had chosen the golden hour and we came just in time to catch the sunset. Bathed in the warm golden and amber light, admiring the hues of orange and pink painting the sky, not a single soul could escape the entrancement cast upon us.

We took a class photo at the end of our excursion to allow us to reminisce this enthralling and enrapturing journey. It truly was an enjoyable trip, and I can tell my entire class had similar sentiments, for in the class photo everyone had huge smiles etched across their faces. This trip also allowed us to grow closer to one another and strengthen the class bond. If I was given the opportunity to visit Gardens by the Bay again, I would unequivocally snatch it up. Well, what are you waiting for? You should visit Gardens by the Bay as soon as possible to have the time of your life!
