We had a project on learning more about a local tourists attraction. So what better place to go to than one of Singapore's key tourist attraction Gardens by the Bay, having received countless praises and visits from tourists all around the world. It is also the literal representation of Singapore as a garden city, it is filled with flora and fauna of all different species It is most definitely one of the most ideal places for our project as it is filled with learning which will help broaden our horizons. Therefore, we chose Gardens by the Bay to visit.
Just like any successful expedition, one must first do research and make a plan as going straight in will lead us to being clueless and running around like headless chickens making no progress. So we started off by organising ourselves into different groups and used division of labour as to maximise efficiency on our research of Gardens by the Bay. After the research, we gathered back together and each group presented their results to the whole class. Afterwards, we brainstormed together to think up a feasible plan, taking not of important points such as safety precautions, behaviour and duration. Once the plan was finalised we settled on a date which we were all free and prepared ourselves.
During our research we realised that TULIPMANIA was ongoing so we centred our activities around it, we did so as majority of the class has not attended it before and it has been highly spoken of. At Gardens by the Bay we were all in high spirits excited to go explore the wonders of what the garden has to offer. First of all we went to visit the Flower Dome as we did not want to miss any performances by accident. There were many variegated flowers surrounding us there. Walking around seemed like we were transported into the garden of Eden told in fairy tales; peaceful, soothing and lively. Secondly, we hurried to catch the dance performances as that was one of the main attractions and would be a pity if missed one, the performances were all enchanting, each exuding a unique charm which makes one not want to blink for fear one would miss something. Finally to end of the day, we decided to play a small class game where we split up into groups and the first group to find all three flowers listed to look out for wins, it was a whale of a time scrambling around.
The next day during character and citizenship education, we l sat down in a circle where we openly expressed our opinions and many of us felt shy or ashamed to express our thoughts, opinions and feelings as we all know the unwritten rule of what was discussed stayed within the class and if we want to talk to others about it, one would need the class's permission. Fortunately, I did get that our feelings differed from person to person. Some said it was exciting while others said it was fun, hut we all agreed that it was a whale of a time and we would definitely do it again.
All in all, this trip provided much educational value whether it was the knowledge on different flowers or the experience itself would be sure to help us in the future. Not the mention we managed to appreciate Gardens by the Bay as a whole which made us appreciate the other places of interest in Singapore too.
