A feast with my family!

Writer: Chua Zhi Xuan (Oss)Chua Zhi Xuan (Oss)

Do you bond with your family through food? I would very much like to! Just picturing the scene of me gathering around a round table with my family, a smile naturally appears on my face. Just imagining the different dishes kn the table makes me salivate. However, with the busy schedules of mt family, I rarely enjoy the privilege of dining in with my family together.

For the past few years, my parents are working almost everyday till late at night. My brother has many projects and lectures to attend in school, and normally gas his meals outside. No matter how hard I try to pick a time for a family day to eat out, someone in the family always have something on. This, I feel, is making out family bonds fall apart. This is where Eat With Your Family Day 2019 comes in. This is an opportunity to strengthen out family ties through a meal. Since my family loves food, this would definitely play a big part in forming our family bonds.

After much discussion with my family, we all came to an agreement that we would like to order from the Segar Restaurant. The ‘Family Favourites‘ set meal is indeed what the name suggests. My family loves home-cooked and staple food. The set meal offers dishes like Hotplate chicken with dried chilli, which my mother loves. The oyster omelette is something that my father had when he was young, so he wants to have a taste of childhood again. My brother, on the other hand, loves rice! As for me, I would like to try something new. Something that is not deep fried or unhealthy, and something that all of us will love. Furthermore, although I have heard of excellent reviews of the Tom Yam Soup, I have never tried it personally. Therefore, I would like to grab this opportunity to try this dish.

Not to forget, this day is not only for my family and I to eat our hearts out, but to also catch up with one another and make the day a memorable one. I have a few plans in mind. Firstly, I want to bring all my family members back to the past. On the day we go out to eat, I would bring our all my childhood photos of my parents, siblings and I. As we flip through the photos, we would start to think back on all the childhood memories and have a nostalgic meal. Secondly, taking pictures. People say that pictures capture the little moments that make up life, and is something we can all look back at. Taking pictures as a family is hence important. In the future, I would love to look at the pictures that we will be taking and reminisce the day that we finally get to have a meal together.

As the saying goes, “Blood is thicker than water.” Family relationships are somethings extremely precious and important to sustain. I believe that food has the power to bring my family closer than ever before, and this would be the perfect event for that. On that note, I sincerely hope to be able to take part in this event wuth my family, and to be able to make all my plans come true.
